Simply puree avocado with lemon juice, olive oil, and a touch of salt and pepper to make an amazingly healthy substitute for traditional alfredo sauce.
2. Sandwich Spread
Mashed avocado can be an excellent alternative for mayonnaise on a sandwich. Simply mash and spread on a slice of bread!
3. Butter Substitute
Did you know you can bake with avocado? Avocado can be used as a butter or oil substitute in baked goods such as cake, cookies, brownies, and more. An equal amount of mashed avocado can be used in place of the butter in a recipe, but make sure to lower the baking temperature when baking with avocado.
4. Smoothie Ingredient
A smoothie that is loaded with fruits and vegetables can make an excellent nutritious breakfast, or a great snack any time of day. Yogurt is often used in smoothies to give it that thick and creamy texture, but avocado can make a great substitute. Since avocado on its own doesn’t have a powerful flavor, your smoothie will probably take on the flavor of the other ingredients. For sweetness, try berries, grapefruit, or peaches.
5. Salad Dressing
For a homemade salad dressing that tastes as rich and creamy as buttermilk ranch, try blending the components of a vinaigrette into a mashed avocado. Place oil, vinegar (or lemon juice), some favorite herbs and spices, and avocado into a food processor and blend it until it is smooth and creamy.
